I've started my 3 year course at Portsmouth University in 3D Design, about 6 weeks into my first year now. When I mention what course I'm doing to people, most ask me:
"Oh, is that like design work on computers using CAD?"
No. It's very hands-on work. In fact, we barely make use of computers at all. All of our design work goes into our personal sketchbooks, alongside research and technical files to expand our knowledge. To be honest I prefer it that way since my handywork with computers is not as good as what it could be. Not to mention my little Mac laptop is pretty old and full and lags at the smallest thing I do; running a design program is out of the question!
I do love that we get to make the designs we draw, using the facilies and workshops downstairs. I think that's probably the whole reason why I joined this course. If I was sat at a computer all day everyday I think I'd go mad.
Anyhoo - to the point!
I'm going to start using this site to upload some of the things I've designed and created as a sort of online portfolio. One of our tutors suggested it and well, it's not a bad idea to be honest.
Just bear in mind that not everything I upload is going to be good or perfect. I'm just going to enjoy playing around for now. And well, it's the idea that counts anyway
All my love.x.
